May is National Foster Care Month

A home for a child...... A child for a home....

Each May, National Foster Care Month provides an opportunity to shine a light on the plight of hundreds of thousands of children and youth in the foster care system. The campaign raises awareness about the urgent needs of these young people and encourages citizens from every walk of life to get involved.
Together, We Can Make a Difference
Through the dedication of advocates, child welfare professionals, elected officials and support groups around the country, the total number of children waiting for a safe and permanent family has decreased from more than a half million to 463,000 between 2003 and the end of 2008. These numbers tell us that, together, we can make a difference for children in foster care.

Has it ever touched your heart to consider adoption or foster care? If you have even the slightest interest, I urge you to find out more!

As many of you know, Rosie is adopted, and I cannot even begin to describe how she as enriched our lives. Sometimes people say to us, "She is so lucky" but I speak from my heart to say we are the lucky ones. We have been blessed beyond our biggest dreams.

Where do you start? If you're like me, you would rather talk (or email) someone than wade through tons of reading materials. Here's a link http://adoptuskids.org/resourceCenter/rrtPackets/chooseState.aspx to an online contact form and a phone number to call. You can also join the online communities on Facebook and Twitter or join in on the twitter chat May 27 at 2 p.m. EST on Twitter at #AdoptUsKids.

Sean was reluctant when we started our journey of adoption. I told him all along the way, "we are learning about our options, if we find out it's not for us, we can stop. But until we learn what it's all about, how will we know?" Do it! Don't wait another minute! Click on the link and start learning about your options! Adoptuskids.org

  1. I know that when my kids are old enough to leave I may consider having foster kids. People don't realize the impact they make.
